Sonya’s Cancer Caregivers’ Center (S.C.C.C.) derived from the outstanding love and support that Sonya received during her battle with cancer, in 2007. Sonya admired her two children, family, and friends’ strength to persevere and get her successfully through her fight. She realized during her battle and thereafter that Caregivers are a critically essential keystone of the cancer patient’s journey. At the same time, Sonya recognized a gap existed concerning tending to the needs of the actual Caregivers.
Stricken by the gap, Sonya made it her mission to create a way to provide care to Caregivers. She endeavored in several ways, from being a zealot volunteer at The James Cancer Hospital and spokesperson for the American Society in Columbus, Ohio, to visiting cancer patients and their Caregivers at their home or hospice and founding Sonya’s Tribute Day an annual gala celebrating Caregivers through orators, arts, and hospitality to work towards this mission.
Sonya has now materialized her mission by founding S.C.C.C. to be the premier comprehensive service provider to Caregivers that was missing during her battle with and recovery from cancer.
I saw the horror in their faces as they walked this horrific journey along side me. But they were absolutely amazing and relentless with their support. I will always care very deeply for the Caregiver.
